For Club Med Sahoro in Japan, Mathilde Burkard was invited to design an immersive wall décor conceived for the building’s interior circulation spaces.
The project unfolds across two areas: a large stairwell wall and a corridor stretching nearly 14 meters in length. Conceived as a continuous landscape, the décor reveals itself gradually along the path, inviting a rich and contemplative journey.
Inspired by Japan’s mountainous landscapes, forests, and flowing waters, the panoramic composition blends traditional references with a contemporary interpretation. Mountains, vegetation, birds, water movements, and figures drawn from Japanese iconography come together in a rich yet balanced scene, shaped by a harmonious palette of blues, greens, and warm tones.
In addition to this main décor, Mathilde also created a series of illustrations inspired by the restaurant’s culinary themes. Applied to the columns throughout the different dining areas, these compositions help define and accompany each gastronomic universe, contributing to a cohesive and immersive experience.
